Joe Manchin, West Virginia governor, appointed Carte Goodwin to replace Democratic Robert Byrd, who died June 28, within the Senate. Unemployed Americans whose benefits have expired may have a new hero in Goodwin. Unemployment benefits can be increased in length if the job bill passes with the final vote that everybody expects Goodwin to give.
Carte Goodwin is the young who replaces the old man
When Carte Goodwin is sworn in, the 36-year-old attorney will be the youngest senator filling the seat left vacant by Byrd, who was the oldest senator in office when he died last month at the age of 92. CBS News reports that His vote will prove critical in the first hour of his service within the Senate. Goodwin can be sworn in on Tuesday afternoon, and minutes later, the Senate intends to vote on extending unemployment benefits, a proposal that has so far been blocked by a Republican filibuster.
Unemployment benefits being extended not in Republican plans
Because of Byrd’s death, the 60 votes needed for unemployment extension has yet to be seen. The bill would re-establish an additional 73 weeks of benefits to unemployed workers who cannot find jobs. The unemployment deficit would be much worse by longer unemployment benefits republicans. The other side argues that the economy would get better when all that money is immediately put back into the economy and is spent. A report on all247news.com said that a Bloomberg poll showed 70 percent of American adults were more concerned with reducing the nation’s unemployment rate than reducing the national deficit.
Carte Goodwin vs. Joe Manchin for senator?
Until the November general election, Carte Goodwin is going to keep the seat in senate. The Huffington Post reports that Goodwin already has ties to West Virginia’s Senate delegation. Rochelle, his wife, is a director for his colleague, Senator Jay Rockefeller. Friday, Rockefeller called Goodwin “unquestionably among West Virginia’s best and brightest” as the new pick for Senate. Right now, nobody thinks Goodwin will run in November. Joe Manchin, his former boss, has already placed his dibs on the seat.
