Days after Faisal Shahzad attempted to bomb Times Square, a Times Square suspicious package has caused the area to be temporarily evacuated. Traffic was rerouted and the bomb squad investigates. The package was found near the Marriott Marquis Hotel. There’s no need to get a personal loan to build a bomb shelter yet, as it turned out to be an unattended bag.
Times Square suspicious package had nothing bad in it
The NYC Police Department bomb squad inspected the Times Square suspicious package. The parcel in question was a small, non-plastic, white cooler left unattended, near the Marriott Marquis, near 45th street and Broadway. The package was reported by a street vendor, and upon investigation by the NYPD, the package was found to contain nothing dangerous, according to the New York Post. The evacuation has been called off.
The Times Square suspicious package contained only water
According to the Washington Post, all the cloth cooler contained was bottled water. Granted, bottled water doesn’t explode, but it could cause the normal person to explode with anger when they realize how much they overpay for it. (A fair cross section of water is bottled at municipal sources, otherwise known as tap water!) Now that I think of it, when you think of the BPA in the bottles and that bottled water has looser rules on its content than tap, the package could be considered dangerous.
some paranoia is justified
This may seem a laughable incident, but there has been an atmosphere conducive to paranoia for some time. Numerous would have had the same response to the bag. That was the same block that Faisal Shahzad planted his Times Square automobile bomb. Thankfully, he was totally inept at bomb making. An odious fog of Fear and Loathing has descended lately. One wonders if we shall ever get a reprieve.
